For our fourth Urban Legend of October, we discuss the Navajo legend of the Skinwalker. In Navajo culture, there is a belief that those who have the ability to harness the negative energy within our world become what is known as a Skinwalker or “yee naaldlooshii”. They are a witch with the ability to transform into any creature they desire, possess humans and animals alike, read minds, create disease, and even raise the dead. Their purpose is to create chaos and terrify those who encounter them, spreading their negative energy like wildfire. Just remember though, if you ever meet one, don’t try to kill it… it will only make it angry.
